Coaching
Mike Ellis the Club's senior coach has been fencing for 40 years (with one 7 year break for Badminton) and coaching for 16 years. He teaches all three weapons and holds a number of recognised formal qualifications:
Foil: BAF qualifications equivalent to BFA Regional coach
Epee: BAF qualifications equivalent to BFA regional coach
Sabre: BAF qualification equivalent to BFA county coach
Mike began fencing at the age of 13 and entered many competitions during his fencing career with notable successes including second place (Foil) in the Essex open and quarter finals in the all England (Sabre), both when Mike was in his late teens. More recently Mike won four county Gold medals in one year: Individual Sabre, Team Sabre, 4W team (Sabre) and Veterans (all three weapons).
Full club members can have lessons free of charge, either with Mike or one of our other coaches. These typically last 10 minutes for cadets and 20 to 30 minutes for seniors.
In addition to Mike the club also has three additional qualified coaches to cover fencers at the beginners to intermediate level in all weapons
